The Department of Defense said Thursday the NMT, a satellite communications terminal with multiband capabilities that provides protected and wideband communications, is intended to support the Navy’s capacity to maintain secure and survivable communications across multiple frequency bands. These include Advanced Extremely High Frequency, Enhanced Polar System, Enhanced Polar System Recapitalization, Milstar Block I and II, Ultra High Frequency Follow-On/Extremely High Frequency/Enhanced EHF and Polar satellites.
Raytheon’s Navy Contract Details
Raytheon will carry out the work in Marlborough, Massachusetts, with an expected completion date of October 31, 2031. Should all contract options be exercised, the project timeline could extend through September 2035, increasing the total contract value to approximately $547 million.
The Naval Information Warfare Systems Command in San Diego, California, will initially allocate $454 million from various Navy funding sources, including procurement, construction and improvements, shipbuilding and conversion, operations and maintenance, as well as foreign military sales funds.
The contract, awarded through a sole-source process without competition, covers purchases for the U.S., Australia, the Netherlands and the UK.
