Voyager Technologies has acquired a proprietary technology from BridgeComm Technologies as part of its effort to accelerate internal development efforts and the delivery of advanced optical communication systems for defense and commercial markets.
Dylan Taylor, chairman and CEO of Voyager, said Monday that the acquisition will compress the development timeframe for the production of optical communication systems and enable his company to respond to “one of the fastest-growing needs in defense and commercial communications.”
“With the acquisition, we can accelerate the rollout of optical solutions that will support Department of Defense missions while positioning the solutions for commercial adoption in parallel,” he commented.
Optical Communications Development
Based in Denver, Colorado, BridgeComm supplies point-to-point free space optical wireless communications solutions for government, telecommunications and space applications.
Optical communications is used in proliferated low Earth orbit satellite architectures, enhancing the resiliency of space networks and empower users to achieve real-time decision advantage.
According to Voyager, optical communications also enable commercial applications, such as linking satellites with aircraft to deliver higher data throughput across global networks.
Voyager’s Expansion
The BridgeComm proprietary technology acquisition comes a few weeks after Voyager also purchased the California-based artificial intelligence and machine learning company ElectroMagnetic Systems, Inc. Taylor said the addition of EMSI’s capabilities into his company’s portfolio will enable the delivery of “actionable intelligence at machine speed” in contested environments.
In April, Voyager also announced its acquisition of LEOcloud to bolster its space-based cloud computing offerings.
