Proposed US Weapons Sales Deal With Israel
According to documents reviewed by WSJ, the proposed transaction includes 30 AH-64 Apache helicopters worth approximately $3.8 billion and 3,250 infantry assault vehicles valued at approximately $1.9 billion.
The Apaches included in the proposed deal would nearly double the Middle Eastern country’s current fleet of the aircraft.
According to the report, the weapons would be paid for by U.S.-provided foreign military funding and likely would not be delivered for two to three years.
The White House initially submitted the proposed arms sales to congressional leaders about a month ago.
Sources said the State Department is seeking the approval of the four top Democratic and Republican leaders of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and the House Foreign Affairs Committee.
The leaders of the two congressional panels must approve major foreign arms sales before the administration notifies Congress and the public.
