Peru Gets US Approval for $3.4B F-16 FMS Request

The U.S. Department of State has cleared Peru’s $3.42 billion foreign military sales request for F-16 fighter aircraft, related equipment and support services.

The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said Monday Lockheed Martin, GE Aerospace and RTX will serve as prime contractors in the proposed FMS deal, which aims to help the Peruvian air force improve its ability to defend its territorial borders, control its sovereign airspace and perform air-to-ground attack operations to support ground forces in counternarcotics and counterterrorism operations.

The proposed sale will also help Peru enhance its military partnership with the U.S.

Peru’s F-16 Aircraft Procurement Request 

The proposed transaction with the South American country includes 10 F-16C Block 70 aircraft, two F-16D Block 70 aircraft and 14 F110-GE-129 engines. It also covers improved programmable display generators; AIM-120C-8 advanced medium-range air-to-air missiles; LAU-129 guided missile launchers; M61A1 anti-aircraft guns; and AIM-9X Block II Sidewinder missiles and tactical guidance kits.

The Peruvian government has also requested to buy non-MDE items, including infrared search and track systems; AN/ALQ-254 Viper Shield or equivalent electronic warfare systems; missile warning systems; AN/AAQ-28 Litening targeting pods; Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing Systems II helmet-mounted displays; and AN/ALE-47 airborne countermeasures dispenser systems.

The proposed FMS deal also covers repair and return support; classified and unclassified software and software support; aircraft, engine, ground and pilot life support equipment; classified and unclassified publications, manuals and technical documentation; National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency maps and mapping data; studies and surveys; personnel training, simulators and training devices; U.S. government and contractor engineering, technical and logistics support services; and other program support.

DSCA has notified Congress of the proposed sale.
