Voyager Technologies has acquired Penrose, Colorado-based manufacturer of critical defense materials and compounds, Estes Energetics.
How Does the Acquisition Impact the Defense Industry?
Voyager said Thursday that the move expands its ability to oversee the production, certification and quality of critical energetics for national defense applications and strengthens the domestic industrial base, enabling full vertical integration from raw materials to ballistic release.
“We are closing a key gap in our national readiness posture by ensuring American leadership over energetics, which are foundational to how we protect, maneuver and project strength,” commented Dylan Taylor, chairman and CEO of Voyager. “This significantly strengthens the position of our propulsion capabilities from ground to orbit. As global supply chains become increasingly fragile, these capabilities must be built, qualified and safeguarded here at home, with transparent certification, rigorous safety oversight and the surge capacity to meet urgent operational needs.”
Estes Energetics provides critical chemicals vital to defense and industrial manufacturing. The company also advances solid rocket motor technology through its research and development activities.
“We have the surge capacity, quality oversight and integrated supply chain resilience to support rapid fielding, routine training and long-term modernization,” added Karl Kulling, CEO of Estes Energetics. “Now with Voyager, we can expand production, invest in new capabilities and support customers across defense, space and national security with certainty and scale.”
Estes Energetics is the latest company that Voyager has acquired as part of its effort to expand its capability portfolio. In 2025 alone, Voyager also acquired space-based cloud computing company LEOcloud; Electromagnetic Systems, provider of artificial intelligence and machine learning-powered automated target recognition software and intelligence analytics for space radar systems; and advanced electric propulsion technologies manufacturer ExoTerra Resource.
