Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Phil Root has been appointed chief technology officer of GRVTY, a company specializing in cyber, ISR-T, data analytics and intelligence.

The national security company said Root will drive the company’s technology vision while continuing to serve as a managing adviser on the GRVTY Advisory Board.

Who Is Phil Root?

Root is an MIT-trained aerospace engineer with extensive operational and technical experience and proven research and development leadership. He is a council member of the Council on Global Competition and Innovation. He recently founded Lunar Pacific, a company dedicated to maintaining the U.S. competitive advantage by collaborating with risk-tolerant partners within national security to drive disruptive paradigm shifts.

The new CTO spent over eight years at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. He was the director of the strategic technology office, acting director and deputy director of the defense sciences office.

Root served in the Army for 21 years and held various leadership roles, including director of the center for innovation and engineering, assistant program manager and astronaut office representative.
