USA Rare Earth has named long-time Siemens USA executive Barbara Humpton as its new chief executive officer, effective Oct. 1.

The Stillwater, Oklahoma-based company said Monday Humpton, a five-time Wash100 Award winner, will join USAR’s board of directors. She will play a key role in advancing the company’s goal of establishing itself as the foremost domestic provider of essential rare earth minerals and magnets that support national security and allied nations. She will succeed Joshua Ballard, who will stay on as an adviser until Oct. 31.

“Barbara is an established global leader in the areas that matter to us, including critical infrastructure, technology and strategic national defense, and brings years of experience engaging with government entities,” said Michael Blitzer, chairman of USA Rare Earth.

Barbara Humpton’s Career Highlights

Humpton has dedicated 14 years to Siemens USA and will officially retire on Oct. 1. She served for over seven years as its president and CEO, leading strategy, operations and services across electrification, automation and digitalization.

She previously served as president and CEO of Siemens Government Technologies, where she initially held the posts of senior vice president and chief operating officer. Earlier, Humpton held vice president roles at Booz Allen Hamilton and Lockheed Martin.

Humpton is a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond’s board of directors and currently chairs the board of the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments.
