L3Harris Technologies has received a potential $292 million contract to continue the production of solid rocket motors for the Javelin weapon system.
The company said Monday the five-year extension is the largest propulsion contract ever awarded for the Javelin program. L3Harris is the sole producer of the solid rocket motors, while the Javelin Joint Venture of Lockheed Martin and RTX business Raytheon, manufactures the weapon system for the U.S. Army, Marine Corps and international partners.
Boosting Solid Rocket Motor Production
Through internal investments and the $215.6 million cooperative agreement with the Department of War, L3Harris is advancing its solid rocket motor production for Javelin and other programs. It is enhancing its manufacturing capabilities by investing in automation and integrating a fully digital workflow to optimize production for the Javelin program. This will enable real-time tracking, enhanced quality control and rapid production.

“Javelin provides a key capability for the United States, allies and partners,” said Ken Bedingfield, president of Aerojet Rocketdyne at L3Harris. “Our ongoing investments in modernized solid rocket motor manufacturing will allow us to increase production capacity for Javelin by incorporating the latest advancements in automation into the motor casting and installation processes,” he added.
