The Missile Defense Agency has awarded Lockheed Martin a $2.06 billion modification to a previously awarded contract for the production of Terminal High Altitude Area Defense interceptors.
Under the contract, Lockheed‘s missiles and fire control division will build and deliver THAAD components under fixed-price incentive contract line-item numbers, with work to be performed in Texas, California, Alabama and Arkansas through Dec. 1, 2029, the Department of Defense said Monday. The MDA obligated $284.9 million in fiscal 2024 and 2025 procurement funds at the time of award.
Lockheed received the base contract, worth 273.5 million, in 2017. The modification increases the contract value to $10.4 billion.
US Missile Defense System
THAAD, a key component of the U.S. ballistic missile defense system, is designed to defeat ballistic missile threats inside or outside the atmosphere. It features fire control, interceptors, launchers and radar systems that support deployments via air, land and sea transport.
